From what I've heard, the 40 at Taj is VERY good lately (I haven't played in it recently, but have heard they often have three or more games). It's unfortunate the regulars nixed using $10 chips, but I've heard it's loose and passive which (with the small ante) is prob nice for a good player. The Borg 75 game (which is what I usually play if I play stud), is often very good as well, though there are some tougher players. The 150-300 has looked VERY good lately, but I've never played that high - too sick for me. 75 is enough to occasionally make me want to play in traffic.

cmurl, i play in foxwoods at least once a week.

theres:

1-3 stud, 50 cent ante
1-5 stud, 50 cent ante
5-10 stud
10-20 stud
20-40 stud
and 75-150 stud

also, they spead HORSE and SHOE games.

all have a good size waiting list, the 75-150 and 1-3 are usually the shortest list. stud seems to be alive here still, the games have a good following, HOWEVER i heard from dealers there within a year or two they're phasing it out, and clearing room for more hold em tables, not eliminating the games, just taking a few tables away. mohegian sun is opening a room up in may 08, and they'll feature stud but the word is no lower limit tables there (i dunno how true that is).

Why on earth would anyone play $40/80 with anything other than $10 chips?

Yes, I agree with this. Taj bought these chips specifically for this game. The regulars won't play with them. What can you do? The action is apparently good and they are getting a lot of games. Customer is always right and all that - this crowd isn't too fond of change.

So they use the $20 chips that you use in the $80 game? Yuck. If they have huge stacks of red, I'm all for it. I they're mixing red and green, that's ridiculous.

If I brought a couple of racks of dimes into this game, would they make me change?

No, they use green and red.

You would probably be taken outside and murdered in front of the "Cash for Gold" shop.

Yup the TAJ tried using the $10 chips and that lasted about a week. I don't think they use them anywhere at the taj anymore, stubborn stud players. I don't think they realize that the more physical chips in play usually the more action.

Also, with one denomination of chip, the action moves faster. Apart from the ante, limit poker should be played with one denomination of chip.

Wouldn't that cause potential problems with color-blind players?

Possibly. The different denominations of chips will also have different patterns in the edges, and of course they'll have the denominations on the faces. I'm guessing a color-blind person will be able to cope just fine, and they're used to this sort of thing.
