Better to make access easier for tourists than locals, who are more likely to be using the parking garage.

Games in Vegas are built by locals and fed by tourists. The Wynn has the best Local's support because it's so dang easy to get to and they treat you so well. The Venetian has done a decent attempt to make it easier with reserved parking for the locals and an excellent job with how they treat you. I know at least twenty of the staff members by name and they all greet me warmly whenever I am playing there, which is streaky at best. The location is the best that the Venetian can come up with, and is perfect for tourist action. Whenever they have a game of a stake that I find interest in, it is my number one choice for all comfort reasons, but it also is usually the best game in town too due to the tourist traffic. And all these rooms are competing with the Bellagio, because their games have always been there and thus they have a foothold on the market. I hope that changes.

As a note, today they got a 60-120 limit game going as well as 2 5-10 NL games going. The 5-10 main game was the best 5-10 game I have sat in ever and stayed that way for eight hours straight.

I'm also confused about the supposed horribleness of the Venetian location.

Where exactly would be a good location for a new room to have a chance to do better?
Not which casino. Just what location would somehow be better if you could magically pick up the Venetian and plop it down anywhere you wanted to.
the MGM or Mandaly location? The Harrah's location?

i just don't know why the Venetian's location is so sucky.

Treasure Island's location is pretty close to optimal.

The Venetian positioned their poker room near the front door for easy access from the strip. It's not that long of a walk from the parking garage. Lord knows, poker players could use the excercise The location is mid strip. About the only downside is getting in here from the strip can take awhile with the traffic. But anyone who's been around this area would know to go around the backside and in that way.

Even going around the back is a nightmare, especially during any convention or weekend, which comprises about 75% of the time one would go there.

Compare it to Wynn or Mirage, which are basically the Venetian's primary competitors. 95% of the local customers come in off I-15 and Spring Mountain. From that point, including parking and walking to the room, it's about 6 mins to the Mirage, 6 mins to Wynn, and 20+ mins to the Venetian. Simply not worth it to most people.

Their biggest mistake was building such a monstrosity in the first place. Even when they started, poker was a saturated market in Vegas. The size of the room is absurd, and the amount of money they spent is a crime. They are obviously paying the price now, the room not only cost them a fortune to build, but it's likely lost money since opening day as well. Ugh.

i played a lot at the venetian last time i was in vegas. it was during wsop so all the bellagio was hopelessly packed. i liked the venetian and it everything went smoothly as far as management but i dont really know anything.

i also happened to be at the mirage when the unveiled the 6max tables and there were a few problems. the main reason i didnt play them was bc they charged the same rake as the 10ppl table. that, combined with the fact that the players who wanted to play 6max actually seemed to know what they were doing and i stayed away.

2ndly, mirage did absolutely nothing to promote the new table. hell, it jsut sat there and ppl would look at it funny and say"whats that for?" never when i talked to the floor to get on a list would they even ask if i was interested in 6way.

During WSOP we talked Mirage into locking 40-80 game as 6-max. Both times game lasted just long enough for me to drop 2K...

When the new tower is completed, there will be parking right next to the sports book, which an 18 second walk to the poker room. That will solve that.

I'd play. A bunch of internet guys trying to play the real game live is a recipe for profit.

Yeah, I would consider playing this too.

Lots of players spewing way too much.
This is assuming it's limit though.
If it's NL I'll just stick to the 10-player comfort-zone because I'm so much farther behind on the learning-curve.

Clark - Thanks for your response. Didn't realize it was that big a deal practically being across the street from where you think they should be.
But it can easily take an extra 10-15 minutes just to get from one place to another whether walking or driving.

LV is a funny town when trying to guage how long it takes to get from point-A to point-B.

I just got off the phone with the Venetian poker room, and the person I talked to had NO idea about any 6-max tables there. She sounded surprised about the ad in Card Player. I don't know her management level though, so maybe she hadn't found out yet about what's coming in April.

I think live players would go for it if the rake reduction was well advertised. Otherwise its a tough sell. Everybody live seems to want to see lots of cheap (no blind) hands.
