[ QUOTE ] wow, that is almost worse then Buckner [/ QUOTE ] A puck will hop over a stick about 20 times a game. I don't see grounders roll through legs 20/game. [/ QUOTE ] That ground ball hit to first base....how many times do you think an average first baseman misses that? Skating in all by yourself on an open net....how many times do you think a hockey player misses that? |

Re: Unreal ending to Oiler/Stars game last night, 16 seconds left
I don't think the "mistake" was any worse than what happened to Reggie Bush a few weeks ago when he fumbled the ball all by himself as he was running towards the end zone untouched.
Now obviously, to make things equivalent, on the Bush fumble the other team would have to recover and run it in for a TD. So I'm not arguing that the actual play was anywhere the same shock value, but I'm saying that the mistake made was nearly identical. And nobody seems to be critisizing Bush too much. |

This clip shows the replay Woodguy is talking about. Anybody know who the announcer is that's trashing Stefan? [/ QUOTE ] Ray Ferraro (former NHL'r) on the colour, and Peter Loubarious (sp?) did play by play |

But to call this the most embarrassing thing ever (as Razor did) is pretty dumb. Has he never heard of Steve Smith? [/ QUOTE ] And this is way worse than Buckner, disregarding the magnitude of the situation. Missing grounders happens. This doesn't and never should. And it's Ray Ferraro. RJ Broadhead is a studio guy for sportsnet. |

Oh okay that's a different clip than the one I saw last night on youtube. The pbp guy is Loubardias, in the other clip you hear Ferraro just tearing Stefan a new one.

This would be a much better story (and far more embarrassing for Dallas) if the Stars ended up losing the game because of it. Instead, it just took them longer to win.

Thing is the goalie will sometimes chop up his crease before he leaves

It would be pretty sweet if the Oilers made it by a point and then beat the Stars in the 1st round. |

[ QUOTE ] wow, that is almost worse then Buckner [/ QUOTE ] A puck will hop over a stick about 20 times a game. I don't see grounders roll through legs 20/game. Am I the only one here who doesn't find this play remarkable? Sure, combined with the score, the time remaining, and the fact that the other team went the other way and scored, is pretty remarkable. But to call this the most embarrassing thing ever (as Razor did) is pretty dumb. Has he never heard of Kevin Lowe? [/ QUOTE ] I agree. The timing and everything is pretty crazy. But the most embarassing thing he's ever seen? The puck very obviously took a nasty bounce in the cut-up crease. You can tell by his reaction live when the puck rolled away. And in the replay from the longer clip you can see he's not trying to be ultra-fancy or do anything spectacular or anything (like an all-alone NBA player who goes for a 360-degree dunk and sends the ball ricocheting off the rim into orbit). He's just walking it in and going to tap it into the net and it takes a bad bounce on the ice. Reminds me a little bit of the soccer play they showed on sportscenter a few weeks ago where a goalie is going to routinely kick a slow-rolling ball coming towards him but it bounces right over his foot and into his own goal. I'm sure someone has a youtube link for that one too. |
