Re: How many Harvards?
Not only are there many Harvards, but I have seen several people posting here talking about how they attend a "near-ivy" or "baby-ivy" etc college. What nonsense. Why do these people buy into the marketing crap that they need to measure up somehow to schools in the ivy league. All it does is make the person think, "oh, okay, so it is NOT an ivy league school. i get it."
People, just say the name of your school and get on with it! |

Re: How many Harvards?
In HS the local community college was called Harvard on the Hill.
When I was interviewing for post-college jobs an interviewer told me she went to Brown and called it The Berkeley of the East Coast, which is an improvement over The Assh0le of the Ivy League, I guess. |

Re: How many Harvards?
Is Harvard generally considered the #1 school in the US? Yes, it depends upon the program, department etc. but in the UK Ox and Cam are considered the 2 best for sure, and us Limeys get the impression that Harvard is #1, ahead of amazing schools like Yale, Stanford, MIT etc.

Re: How many Harvards?
Dozens of schools can give you the equivalent of a Harvard academic education, where it gets its power from is the connections you make by attending there. The people you meet and the doors opened by having Harvard on your degree are why it has its reputation, not for the quality of what they teach you, which in many areas is rather suspect.
As for Wash U, it also has some not so pretty nicknames reflecting that it is a backup school for those not able to make it into Harvard, Yale, etc. A large part of its reputation for excellence comes from the medical school, which is top notch, other areas, not so much. |
