I think it's called the "Big Dig".

Boston joke?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not a joke. I believe that's what they're calling it (the constructio part). Supposed to be LV's largest complex, employer and parking sturcture. I think it's going to be called Town Center.

CITY Center. Las Vegas stopped being a town a couple years ago. The sad part of all this is what it has done to my beloved Frank Sinatra. Who let those bastards take over hal f the road? And block traffic willy-nilly to give priority to dump trucks coming and going? GIVE IT BACK!

I just got back from staying 10 days at the Monte Carlo. I couldn't hear the construction at night as long as I had the window in the room closed. I was facing that side, and I was on the 16th floor.

Be warned that their pool is closed until at least February, if not March for construction. Call them to find out the exact date.

Just to echo everyone else, I've stayed at both and MC is nicer. A legitimate 4 star hotel.

Luxor is ok, esp the newer tower rooms(rather than the pyramid rooms).

I've heard that the walls are kinda flimsy and not so soundproof... I stay at the NYNY (same group, right next door) and I like it a lot FWIW.

The best part of staying in the Luxor Pyramid room....at some point there is a good chance you will bonk your head on the angled window trying to look out.

I stayed at the MC for 5 days in September. The construction was in full swing next door, but didn't bother us at all in the hotel, just an unsightly walk to the Bellagio was the only effect I could see. Possible it's gotten more intense over the past couple of months, I guess.

Haven't been to Luxor, so I can't compare the two, but I can say that we were very happy with the MC, would gladly stay there again. The brew pub is awesome, and the cafe on the casino floor is quite good as well. Relatively restrained & elegant decor/atmosphere, neither over-opulent like Bellagio/Venetian/Wynn, nor "faded glory past its prime", nor theme-park-ish like Paris/Excalibur. Struck me as just the right balance between quality and economy.

Oh yeah - and Purple Reign is this Prince cover band that puts on an awesome show with a full cast of Prince "characters" from Purple Rain - it sounds really stupid when you type it out but trust me it was a really awesome show. They play on wed or thurs at the Brew Pub.

[/ QUOTE ]

IŽll second this. It might sound lame, but "Prince" is quite good, and the chick is hot.

If you are a child of the 80s, or a Prince fan, you will likely enjoy their show. Purple Reign schedule

Monte Carlo also has better rooms than the Luxor, the beer from the brew pub is worth checking out, and you can get that beer in the poker room.

The poker room is nice looking, but high hand jackpots and mini-blind structure seems to attract tight locals.

I would not try to get the poker room rate at MC because I would not want to play in their room a lot. But it is better than the Luxor.

The Real Prince is at the Rio now. No need to see a cover when you can get the real thing.

A little more info. The MC Brew Pub isn't brewing their own beer anymore. Parking is way messed up at the MC if you are driving/renting a car.

The Luxor has temp walls up all over the place as they are redoing some lounges and the nightclub.

Thanks, CaptHomer.

$125 for Prince on the weekends.

Anyone seen the show yet?
