Re: AJo Raise on turn
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I just bet the turn. This is not a pot worth protecting. We just value-bet our winnar [/ QUOTE ] I don't think this move is so much about protection as about getting value [/ QUOTE ] If it gets checked through, we're just leaving bets on the table - where's the value in that? Re: AJo Raise on turn
If someone has hit a Jack and wants to bet, I have the best kicker and can c/r - if nobody has, there is a good chance somebody will bluff at the pot and I can also c/r - I saw that combination as the most likely way that money would end up in the pot. All those things combined minus the chance of being drawn out on on the river I decided to be the highest EV.

Re: AJo Raise on turn
Dude -
Just bet. Any other Jack will call you (hell you might get luck and get raised by KJ or something of the sort)- and now, any one with two clubs will call you also - and you don't risk the clubs outdrawing you for free. You'll probably get called by worse hands as well, as you might be the one bluffing now. Sarge[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] |

Re: AJo Raise on turn
not raising preflop here is fine actually. AQo and AJs are a different story though.
once that flop gets checked through i like a turn bet, but given that you checked i think the c/r is fine. |

Re: AJo Raise on turn
To the OP:
I think you're overestimating the chances that someone will bet the turn if you're ahead. A checkraise seems overly tricky for a situation that doesn't really merit it. Why not bet the turn / check the river? This play can look like you're taking a shot at a pot that checked around on the flop, which will cause many players to look you up. Also, if he's picked up a club draw, which is possible, he may bluff on the end where he won't call a bet. If you bet the turn and check the river, as opposed to checkraising the turn, you get the same amount of money in if he bets behind you, and you prevent anyone from getting a free shot to outdraw you. Honestly though, I don't think plays like this are worth it in .25/.50 and I would just bet the turn and bet most river cards, check calling some of the bad ones, and check folding very few. If we're talking about extracting maximum value from 2nd pair, well, I think the plethora of bad river cards for your hand dictate that you bet out instead. |

Re: AJo Raise on turn
Don't raise AJo preflop in this spot. Just not a hand that's going to play well if you don't hit the flop. (actually did this in Vegas a while back and got scolded by Scurb for it) Bet the flop, and if you don't do that for the love of hell don't try and c/r the turn. You've put yourself in a spot where you've got very little idea about where you're at. |

dids-
at this game, you're going to be hard pressed to convince me that raising preflop here isn't a good idea. |

Re: AJo Raise on turn
Buck,
OOP vs. a large field I don't think this hand has enough equity in this spot to make it worth it. I don't think it's horrible, but I'm un-wild about it. Either way, the worse error here even if preflop is correct is not betting flop. |
