Arizona is horrible team to pick week 1. Despite all the hype about them this year, how sure are you going to be of a team that went 5-11 last year? Never get too high on a team based on the off-season and pre-season.

[/ QUOTE ]

Arizona is the 2nd biggest favorite behind NE this week. They are playing at home. SF is one of the worst teams in the NFL. Arizona improved their running game with Edge.

[/ QUOTE ]

Arizona had one the worst (if not the worst) rushing offenses last year.

2005 Rushing yards per game 71.125

2006 (Pre-season) Rushing Yards per game 71.75

Wow they are monsters now!

So what if they are highly favored. They were a 5-11 team last year and the five teams they did manage to beat had a lowly combined record of 20-44. The most wins any team they beat had was 6. They couldn't even beat a .500 team.

But sure...they're bound to be great this year!!

[/ QUOTE ]

BadBoyBenny's post covers all of this.

I remember in 1998 picking the Vikings to beat the Panthers in week 1.

The Panthers smoked them and the Vikes ended up winning their last 15 while the Panthers lost their last 15

I have NE in my survival pool this week.

shoulda saved them dude, come on... yeah we own the bills but belichick actually has a losing record on opening days.

(this assumes you can use each team only once)

It's a 12 team pool (around 12) and I have picked a separate team for each week up to Week 12 or so. Frankly, I don't trust Arizona.

Edit: Also. Why "save" a team I don't even think is going to be that big of a favorite over many of the other teams they face this year? At home vs. lowly Buffalo? This is the perfect time to pick them when there is so much uncertainity because of it being Week 1.

New England is all banged up. At home against a pretty average and motivated Buffalo team.

What odds do you give Buffalo to win?

Okay, I guess I was pretty wrong about that!

Though in 2001, the Panthers won their 1st game against the Vikes, and lost the rest of their games. This must be what I was thinking of.

I'm curious who you took week 3. As far as I can tell, there is no clear choice that week. Maybe Philly @SF? Was @Hou? But they're both road games. There does not seem to be a big home favorite. Week 3 looks to be a very tough week and I foresee a lot of people being eliminated.

No points? Seattle.

[/ QUOTE ]first rule of survivor pools: Never take road teams.

[/ QUOTE ]

Especially on opening day.

And to another post:

Why do people use pre-season stats to analyze how much a team has improved. Half the games see the starters play ONE quarter.

It is being ignorant to say that Arizona's running game has not significantly improved, going from Shipp and Arrington to Edge.

A lot of people don't get eliminated in weeks when there's no obvious pick. A lot of people get eliminated when there is a clearcut choice, that loses.
