I didn't wanna turn this into an internet cock waving contest, bet Mauer is pressed to be the third best player on his team.

In terms of MVP award...

VORP:
Liriano-50.3
Mauer-59

Win Shares: 17, 22

Plus Liriano is probably done for the year.

In terms of who is a better player you're probably right although as hard as it is to find a great catcher I'd have to think it over a lot.

and I don't see anyone close to these three, maybe I'm forgetting someone? ("Mauer is pressed to be the third best player on his team")

Justin Morneau has 19 WS and you could make the arguement that he is right there with Mauer, Santana and Liriano in terms of his importance to the Twins.

morneau's vorp is 44.4 as a 1B/DH you've got to be having a hell of a season to be as valuable as a catcher since the numbers of a replacement level 1B/DH are so much higher than for C

Yeah I think that because of position Mauer is 'more vaulable' than Morneau, but I still think that he has to be considered when you are talking about the most vaulable Twins.

Also I do think that MVP voters are very concered about positional value over a replacement, even though it is important.

Thats essentially what I was talking about Santana, Liriano, Morneau. Of course Mauer is v v good and if the internet isn't a place for rampant hyperbole.... Where is?

BTW I read my first post. Jeter is by no means a lock (that was dumb) but the line seems way off on this. I think voters continue in their pattern and he has a better than 50% chance to take this down as opposed to what the line seems to say.

Last odds I saw had Jeter 5-4 and Ortiz 1-1.

Woot.

Best Twin has to be Mauer, but Johan is keeping us alive, so in my view Twins MVP. Not sure the voters think that way though. I used to watch Ortiz play plenty as a Twin, and I felt he had to go; the suggestions that he is as only as good as his supporting cast are right on IMO. Morneau and Mauer, Santana and Liriano, Hunter and Cuddyer, Garza. Nathan. I think we roll into that new park with a squad!

ALMVP Goes to the guy with most ridiculous numbers....Morneau hits a few extra out, Mauer keeps the hits comimng, Santana notch a BIG over De Troit, and teh Twins hit the playoffs: One of the guys is getting the MVP.

But, to restate my opinion, Johan is the guy.

Johan
Mauer
Morneau
Jeter
