How much would you pay for a pack of weed?

I don't think there's a single post in this thread that makes a reasonable attempt to figure out what this would cost. Guessing is fine if that's what you want to do, but I just wanted to point out that the answers were obviously going to be way off since they're almost random.

I did see "packs" of joints in a couple places in amsterdam. They were bubble packs of 5 fairly large joints. This was in 2000 or so and they were 5-8 bucks. Howevere, the quality wasn't nearly what you could get in a coffee shop.

couple things:

this would be so highly regulated (perhaps all government controlled at first) that the economics of large scale producers vs small scale producers probably wouldn't be relevant. there would probably only be a few producers, all large (again, at first).

the retail cost would be closely related to whatever the government promises they could make off the program (not that different from cigarettes). ie the marginal cost of a pack of weed is insignificant. I don't know offhand what a weed factory would cost to produce.

I think another thing to take into account is the utility of a whole pack of joints. I would be very surprised if anywhere near as many people smoked a pack of joints/day as people smoke a pack of cigarettes/day. In other words, one would probably get longer use from a pack of joints. Comparing it to alcohol, many people pay $20 for a case of beer, which is enough to get F*ed up for 1-3 days. This may have absolutely nothing to do with it, but I think is interesting nonetheless.

Edit: Along those same lines, people will pay many tens of thousands of dollars for a car. The car is likely to last them more than a day. I think this is interesting as well.

You are correct, there is almost zero data here that would lead us to an accurate assumption. 2 of the questions in my OP though, were subjective.

a.) How much would you pay for a pack of Marlboro Greens?

c.) At what price would Marlboro Greens cost so much that you would never consider ever buying a pack, and only grow marijuana yourself.

The marajuana plant is one of the most versatile crop plants around. If it were legalized, farmers would be able to provide much more to a consumer market than just the bud .

There would never be a "pack" of 20 joints. I think it would be more in the 4 to 8 range. There are plenty of pack-a-day cigarette smokers, but Its hard to imagine someone smoking 20 joints in a day.

That being said, a pack of 5 joints (0.5g) would probably fetch between 5 and 10 bucks. Thats my estimate.

Stop overpaying for weed, guys. If legal, 1/8th would cost maybe $5 or $10, but then there'd be taxes added. Weed is not hard to grow.
