Re: Stars 10 player nl cash Tables? I don\'t like stars
I don't like stars. Stopped playing there years ago, before Lee Jones was manager.
I always assumed that they had 9 max tables bacause the site had alot less traffic at the time. |

Re: Stars 10 player nl cash Tables?
[ QUOTE ]
I think somewhere in Doyle Brunson's early book he states that the ideal number of players at a no limit table is nine. As mentioned above by a previous poster the "old guard" probably had some measure of agreement with this(experience based) and I believe that the WSOP has always used 9 man tables. I'm not sure what "ideal" means but is probably related to volatility(less tight is right) and cash flow . carlo [/ QUOTE ] Isn't widespread live cash nl a fairly "new" phenomenon in the US as opposed to Europe where it and pl tended to be the standard game? - If that's the case I would guess it was pretty limited when Brunson would have written that (although the same could probably have been said of cardroom/casino poker in general at the time as I understand it and particularly hold'em in all its forms). Does anyone know how many players at a standard European casino cash nl game? |

Post Extras: [/ QUOTE ] Brunson comes from a time when NL Holdem was played in the back rooms of gas stations in Texas or other similar sites. Many carried a gun-refer to Cloutier's book where he speaks to this. The WSOP was started by these gamblers(friends of Benny Binion) at Binions and I believe that early on each player started in $10000 in real money-played for three days and then walked away with what was left. No blind escalation. NL may have been limited in the US but within that circle of Texas boys it was SOP. carlo |

Re: Stars 10 player nl cash Tables?
strange thing on a somewhat related note:
Tournaments at this year's WSOP are 10 handed, but the payout bubble is generally a muliple of 9. |

Re: Stars 10 player nl cash Tables?
In the past few years, they start 10 or 11 handed. As players are elminated on day one they move 9 player tables before any tables are broken. 9 player tables are played until the end of the main event.

Re: Stars 10 player nl cash Tables?
The main-event last year started 10 handed.
There was talk they would have to go to 11-handed if they had more than 6k players registered for it. But, alas, they only had 5,600 ("only"....ha ha ha). they only go to 11-handed when they are super-jammed I thought (like they were for the first event this year). |

Re: Stars 10 player nl cash Tables?
wtf is with stars having the 9 person SNG's... i think thats worse than having 9max cash games because it makes the payouts uneven (ex. 1st-90 2nd-54..) instead of partys nice $100-60-40 payouts
