I always find it interesting how games just naturally play bigger as the night goes on.

Of course. Those of us playing with other people's money are enjoying taking more from those chasing after it. Tho' the most fun seems to be when it's 5 or 6 of us left after a big night, all of us quite up. Fun relaxed interesting play.

I let my PLAYERS decide what they wanted to do. I had a bunch want to raise the stakes from .50/1.00 to 1/2 NL. After spreading the game once, I was hooked. No more .25 chips to worry about. The dollar amounts did go up. Buy ins went from 40 to 60 to 100 to 300 almost immediately. I began making lots more money too. It scared off a few of the total dead money guys, but they would lose 20 and leave anyway. Now we get guys with deep pockets losing 100's of dollars. I would make the suggestion to the core group and see how it goes.
