Food is a huge part of the pleasure than many people derive from life, and if being healthy requires taking that away, maybe it isn't worth it.

[/ QUOTE ]
Solution: Get a life.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? You don't get a large amount of pleasure eating good food? I'm a happy person: I have lots of friends, a great job, a gf, etc... and if I were to make a list of things I get the most pleasure out of in life, food would be in my top 5, if not top 3. Maybe you just eat crappy tasting food?

Well, there's a lot of people like me. These places make billions of dollars per year. You guys have correctly pointed out that healthy food is cheaper and is at least as convenient.

[/ QUOTE ]

there are times for it yes, and restaurants are obv different from fast food joints, but if I jet up to chicago for a weekend my diet goes out the window, hot dogs, pizza, big steaks and eggplant rotolo from carmine's all kinds of bad stuff, come monday morning when I wake up in my bed, I am looking forward to some grilled chicken breast and fresh tomatoes. Im sure this is different for everyone though.

Genetically Modified (GM) foods are foodstuffs produced from genetically modified organisms (GMO) that have had their genome altered through genetic engineering.
Between 1994 and 2005, the total surface area of land cultivated with GMOs had increased by a factor of 50, from 17,000 kmē (4.2 million acres) to 900,000 kmē (222 million acres), of which 55 percent were in the United States. Over those years obesity grew in US in following proportion:
a -(BMI > 25) Overweight
b -(BMI > 30) Obesity
c -(BMI > 40) Severe Obesity

1994 to 2004 (a)64.5 (b)30.5 (c)4.7
1988 to 1994 (a)56.0 (b)23.0 (c)2.9

Still think that McD's is your only problem?

They are fat because they are stupid, which is a genetic trait. Stupidity, as has been established already in this argument, increases the probability of fatness.

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, fat people dying doesn't solve THIS problem because they always die after they reproduce, so they are immune to evolution.

[/ QUOTE ]

So you're saying that the children of fat people will necessarily be fat?

They might start out fat, because their food choices are made by their fat, ignorant parents.

But, if they educate themselves, they can make smarter choices later.

Although food has never been anywhere near my top 5, I did used to feel pretty much the same way. Now I've changed to the point where I try to look at food solely as fuel for my body, nothing more. Good-tasting "fuel" is obviously better than poor-tasting "fuel", but it's all the same in the end. And yes, I've had my fair share of quality food, and no, I don't feel like I'm missing out on one of life's great pleasures with this new mindset.

Obesity is genetic right?

[/ QUOTE ]

99% of the time it's not.

edit: haven't read the entire thread yet, it's too big. Cliff notes are, people in the US eat to many carbs and sit on their ass to much. If people in the us ate more protein, and less bread we'd all be skinny.
