Is this worst trade at the time or worst trade in retrospect?

[/ QUOTE ]

Good question. I suppose both - list the ones you like in both categories.

The Astros traded Freddy Garcia and Carlos Guillen for half a year of Randy Johnson.

Yes, this one is awesome as well.

I wish we could do Delano DeShields for Pedro Martinez, but that was in '93.

That one was a giant LOL too.

Liriano hasn't even started a game yet. How about we actually see how these guys turn out before delcaring them hall of famers. Your trade could easily be worse in 5 years but at this moment its all about potential.

Two players that played big roles in a world series team for a horrific reliever is horrible.

[/ QUOTE ]

What are you talking about - Liriano was crushing in the minors and he looks amazing out there in long relief (something the Twins love to do).

Nathan is the AL's best closer, and Bonser is great in the minor leagues.

EDIT: If you are going to judge a player's worth by what they do in a World Series as compared to their individual value, then "Stat Boy" is the worst name possible for you.

[/ QUOTE ]

I understand Liriano looks amazing but who knows what will happen.

I am not basing it on just the world series, they were key components of that team for years and varitek has consistently been one of the best catchers in the league.

Like I said before, there is a good chance that the twins trade is worse, but at this point its no where close.

Curt Schilling deserves some sort of award for being involved in 5 of the most lopsided trades ever.

July 29, 1988: Traded by the Boston Red Sox with Brady Anderson to the Baltimore Orioles for Mike Boddicker.

January 10, 1991: Traded by the Baltimore Orioles with Steve Finley and Pete Harnisch to the Houston Astros for Glenn Davis.

April 2, 1992: Traded by the Houston Astros to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jason Grimsley.

July 26, 2000: Traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Omar Daal, Nelson Figueroa, Travis Lee, and Vicente Padilla.

November 28, 2003: Traded by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the Boston Red Sox for Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, Jorge de la Rosa, and Michael Goss (minors).

Yeah and they've only made the post-season like 5 times since that trade.

I'm pretty sure their success isn't attributed to losing a good SP and a very good SS.

Brian Jordan and Odalis Perez for Gary Sheffield maybe? I don't remember the circumstances of the deal though.
