In American please:

Till = ???

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm all for jumping on the funny-talking foreigners but this is a pretty commonly used word in America.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm 24 and have NEVER heard this word used in place of "cash register" even once in my life.

Where do you work? How easy is it for members of the public to get into this canteen?

Sadly, I couldnt even understand what was going on in this little scenerio, so next time Oliver Twist, translate that to American.

My humble apologies. It does require a little basic arithmetic as well as English, so just ask about anything that's confusing you.

You don't have a sister who works in an office restaurant, by any chance?

For years and years there was this blind guy who worked the register in a gift shop in the Honolulu airport, he basically trusted that nobody was [censored] enough to lie about what bills they were handing to him. Sounds like this could be a good score for you...

OP is an ass for doing this, but if the girl working the register was not half retarded and cared enough to count, there would be no way for anyone to exploit her(I'm sure there would be a way, but it would be a lot moe difficult than not giving her enough money)

It's not our fault. American English is a watered down version of its British counterpart. Besides, we don't use words like "canteen" and "till", much like how you guys wouldn't use terms like "hot lunch" and "cleveland steamer".
