TD did the right thing - waited until he was asked a reasonable question related to fact, and answered it correctly. Dealer should have kept his mouth shut, that's ridiculous. That would essentially be the same as advising a player to call or fold during a hand. Preposterous.

Actually its not really uncommon in many smaller tournaments. I usually don't hear them discourage a deal, but I have heard dealers suggest a chop.

That's OK, especially since some players might not realize you can do it. But to advise about negotiations, that's wrong.

Dealer is an Oldtimer and doesn't see anything wrong.
(I busted out 5th of course).

I hope 5th paid. And I hope you killed the dealer with his own shoes.

I would look the dealer square in the eyes and ask him if he enjoys dealing every hand of the final table until there is only one, and not getting a tip.

This also works really well if you aren't going to bust out a couple of hands later.

You think YOU were mad at the dealer? How do you think the TD and the other dealers felt? This tourney could be over right now. By extending the length of the tourney, Big Mouth has dealt a blow to the hourly rate of the TD, and every dealer who dealt in the tourney.

Why do you think dealers are always suggesting a chop? It has nothing to do with "making the newbs aware of chopping as an option".
