What about pushups on your knuckles for wrist comfort? Good? Bad?

Good, but bad for knuckle comfort.

My friend is on his way to kung fu mastery and does this more for toughening his hands. I'm not sure if there's any strength or comfort benefit.

It is very good for increasing the bone density in your hands and size of your knuckles. I did this a lot in my late teens and though I have a basically really skinny, bird-like physical structure in general, my hands are now so wide at the knuckles that they won't fit inside many gloves anymore, even the larges.

Because this also puts a strain on the wrists, it's good for strengthening them too. Just be careful when you're shaky and exhausted, because your body weight on a collapsing wrist is dangerous.

You can also put a layer or a few of cloth underneath your knuckles to get the strengthening without worrying about your skin feeling quite so pinched. After a while, doing this will get your skin pretty toughened on the knuckles, and may even give you a wedge of callous. That helps when you do other things, like hitting pads and bags. If they get too big, file them down, but most people won't get particularly big callouses from knuckle push-ups, just thickening of skin and often dark discoloration.

Thanks for the info. I mainly like doing them because it does feel a little better on my wrists than having my palms on the ground. I guess it would help in punching people as well.
