Default Re: 3-6 Prima ... iso with A7o

A9o vs. a single limper is $$$, even with a loose BB. I'd raise A7o too but it's closer and I'm not sure I would go any lower, so that might just be an arbitrary cut-off. But as long as you're not auto-3-barreling on terrible boards with ace high, folding A9o there will definitely be suboptimal IMO.

I'd much rather iso raise this guy with a hand like Q9s if I had to choose.

Huh? We're against passive monkeys that limp a whole lot. A7o has enough natural showdown value against a guy like this. Q9s, while a better multiway hand, doesn't have that showdown value. I laugh at the times A high is good after he chases his gutshot, calling flop and turn.

A7o has 53% equity vs. a 50% limping range (and it's really better, because he's raising at least the top 5%), and we have position. We're ahead going in, are going to make less post flop mistakes, and win big pots when we do hit, along with A high being good at showdown a lot.

Other side of the coin, Q9s has 48% equity vs. a 50% range and doesn't have the added value of the high card being good.

Edit: if we assume he raises JJ-AA, AK, AQ, AJs... A7o has 55% equity, Q9s has 50% equity.

Forget about hot/cold eq. Q9s plays much easier postflop and makes bigger hands. I take Q9s over A7o against a limper as well.

I'm more making a case FOR playing A7o, rather than not playing Q9s. I've got mixed feelings on it.

How is it any different having A9o compared to A7o on the Q64 flop..? How is it even much better having AJo on that flop?

It always sucks when you miss a flop but no one is telling you to burn money postflop.

If you want to play A9o how can A7o be "really really bad"?

I am not saying A7o is an easy raise. Just that it isnt "really really bad"

Besides, we all know you are a nit

To be honest, I usually fold A9o as well, because at least with ATo, you can flop gutshots that you can bet the flop with and not have to fold to a c/r.

The problem is, you are not going to hit the flop often enough with A7o against 2 passive calling stations to make it profitable. You are going to bet your 3 outer twice, and check the river UI.

I'd much rather iso raise this guy with a hand like Q9s if I had to choose.

I'm not being a nit, I just don't like burning money

One other thing. I don't need to introduce more hands in my range that I bet/bet/check with.

yeah - i thought PF was a little iffy (not 'super bad' though) ... also the BTN was a little loose and aggro (so I probably should have let it go - i was a little card dead, guess it looked pretty hot at the time )

THEHIP:
i don't think i would have bet the turn if i though BB could c.r with a mid-small PP+ [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
there is a chance but I don't think it's too high with a guy like this (if the player was more aggressive I would tend to check and call the river, as folding to a check-raise becomes much harder)

Because we don't want to give freecards on a drawy board against a passive player
