I agree. That's the format of the tournament.

Some people get byes and have to play one less match. As long as it's a fair draw, who cares?

Strasser vs Jon "Pearljammer" Turner is round one should be good stuff.

People not getting a bye are probably pissed but what can they do. I really thought they'd get 512 for this.

Please explain to me mathematically how it would be more fair to give people a bye in later rounds (against presumably slightly better competition) than it would in the first round.

Where did I say anything about it being mathimatically 'more fair'? I'm strictly talking about how it appears to see 130 or so players of any caliber get a bye in the first round. Pretty stupid in my opinion. YMMV.

I can think of 3 or 4 other interesting ways of doing it besides having a huge chunk of the field sit out the first round.

The lack of brainpower often exhibited in the non strategy forums truly amazes me sometimes.

Guess you don't read that much of the strat forums, plenty of clulessness abounds there as well. Thanks for the comments, have a nice day.

They should really do it Chess/soccer style where you play a few games in a group and the people with the most wins move on to the single elimination bracket.

I read the MTT strat forums. We have some pretty bright guys over there.

I think they should have done two heats of 256, allowing rebuys for first round losers from the initial heat.

No Bye
Yes, earlier we wrote that Justin Bonomo has received a first-round bye, and we reported that because they announced it twice to the entire room. But "ZeeJustin" did play a first-round match, against Annie Duke, and he was eliminated.

There's no good way to cover this craziness. There are no brackets up. No idea who is where or what is going on visually. Just all unorganized...sigh. Hope it works out. Jeez, $5k buy-in too..Plz keep trying Pokernews kthx. Harrah's also...meh.

In good news from round 1:
Bart Hanson > Jeff Madsen
David Tuchman > Sean Sheikhan

Gogogogogogogogo!

In the second round, if a player who didn't have a bye in the first round faces a player who did have one, would that person start with twice as many chips or will they reset to even stacks?
