A mistake many buyers make is not checking the shipping charge before they "buy it now". One of the older tricks, and working less often is to list your item for far less than any competitor, but charge an insane(relative) amount for shipping. Many impulse buyers see the price and buy before they check the shipping, then are locked into the sale.

Magazine Subscriptions are great deals( example:2 years of Maxim for 4 bucks)

What's up with some HDMI cables costing under 10 bucks on ebay or other online stores but not being found for less than 30 at Target?

AV/electronics cables get huge markups at retail stores. When I worked at best buy, if they sold someone a PC, a printer, and a printer cable, they made about as much off of the printer cable as the other two combined.

let me steal the focus here for a quick question- what are some good finds still out there on ebay? in my experiences lately it's a lot of big sellers and things basically have a going rate that, after shipping and bidding hassle, it's that much cheaper than just making the purchase at a store.

are there certain things/areas where ebay is a still a great tool?

Suits. If you know your size well enough, and are somewhat familiar with the differences between Brands of Suits, buying a few on Ebay can be incredible.
