"Because Greg fell victim to Internet gambling's illusions of quick riches and a shortcut to his dreams, his dreams are in ashes today," Hogan told the committee. "Please refuse this bill, because if we open the door to any type of Internet gambling, we are allowing our college and high school students to play Russian roulette."

[/ QUOTE ]

This is such a meritless argument. If you buy this, then we should outlaw live gambling (and shut down Vegas), alcohol, and guns, because they do far more harm to people than internet poker. Blaming online poker for this nutjob robbing a bank is like blaming a gun manufacturer when some psycho uses it to kill somebody. With freedom comes responsibility.

[/ QUOTE ]

While we're at it, let's ban

Food because some people overeat and become obese
Vehicles because some people drive recklessly
Feathers because some people use them to foster their bolemia
Airplanes because some crash
Bees because some people get stung

Using the preachers argument, you can ban virtually everything

I think the best thing to do is ban mindless preachers like him

[/ QUOTE ]

Amen. I am thinking of asking to have women outlawed because I seem to be addicted.

sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where people actually accept the consequences for their decisions and actions instead of doing everything possible not to.

This guy, and his son, are [censored] morons.
First off, he robbed a bank because of losing $8,000 playing poker online, while binge drinking. Why not blame the booze? Why not say that your son is a moron and that laws shouldn't change because of his mistakes.

that was the first time I saw that article JR posted. Its definitely full of gems. Here are a few for the TLDR this kid is retarded anyway crowd.

[ QUOTE ]
In a little more than a year, this clean-cut, conservative kid who saw himself as a future financial mogul lost nearly $8,000 to his gambling addiction....

[/ QUOTE ]

definitely seems like he has the discipline for being a financial mogul.....

[ QUOTE ]
"I practiced by playing, but I really didn't do my homework. I didn't read books on how to play," Greg said matter-of-factly. "I was going to develop my own style, play my own way. I was arrogant."

[/ QUOTE ]

yes, yes, I'm that special.

[ QUOTE ]
Greg remembers the hand that first sent him over the edge. It was November 2004 and he'd drawn a king-high flush. He quickly bet his entire online account of $300. His opponent called his bet and showed an ace-high flush.

[/ QUOTE ]

Bankroll managewhat?

[ QUOTE ]
"A kid who has success all his life learns if you put in the effort, it will pay off," Gupta said. "That doesn't apply to gambling. It's hard for an ultra-successful kid to understand that."

[/ QUOTE ]

good job gambling expert. you could barely be farther from the truth.

[ QUOTE ]
Instead, he sneaked into the family safe and took $1,200 in bonds that had been saved for him since birth.

[/ QUOTE ]

good call, you can just blame online gambling if you're caught. 'But Dad, Lee Jones made me do it'

[ QUOTE ]
The bank overdrafts started coming so frequently that Greg Sr. drove nearly seven hours from Ohio to Bethlehem to install a program blocking his son from accessing gambling sites on his fraternity room computer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Way to go father of the year. Did you do his laundry while you were there too?

[ QUOTE ]
He too wants his son's story to be a cautionary tale for the 1.7 million college students who now gamble online.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea how bout we make it a story about accepting responsibility for your actions. Own your life, the good and the bad.

All his problems stemmed from money, maybe we should change the world for lil Gregory because he can't handle the concept.
