They are in play - that said, its unusual for pots to get large even when two big stacks are involved.

Last month I played a $4600 pot while donking it up in the 1-2 game. Biggest pot I've ever played in terms of BBs.

It was my impression that the multi-thousand 1-2 stacks were for display. I didn't think they were in play.

The first pot after we sat was for $3,500. The biggest was for about $8,000. Yes, one of the big rolls was a maniac, and, yes, there was no point in sitting down with $300 like we did, though one local was sitting with $100.

But I've personally played a few 1K+ pots in the Binion's game.

But its a weird game, you sit with 2-3K, and 2-3 other sit with 2K+, and the rest all have <200.

OK, I stand corrected. I played a grand total of ~2 hrs. at tables where the were more than one >$2k stack. I never saw them in a hand at either table, but these guys weren't locals, and I knew them from other games. I'm hoping to get back out there, and if I do, I'll take another look.

If it was the "duke" then it was indeed for pure display. Otherwise, the stacks are indeed in play.

Some will get it. Most won't.

When I was there in early May, the local degens were sitting with up to $9K behind in the 1/2 game.

How hard was it for Joe-Schmo tourist to buy in for 200 and double up?

[/ QUOTE ]

The small stack is at a significant advantage. See NLT&P for details why.

I sat next to him one time at the Nugget. I think the only time he utilizes those stacks is when he flops quad aces.

Seriously. You can play ABC poker and turn 200 into 2000 in a couple hours easily.
