Explain why plz...

[/ QUOTE ]

You're fold-equity is small. Add this to the fact that your hand has very little chance of being the best one.

[/ QUOTE ]

FE is SMALL?!?

What hands can call our big reraise?

Of all the hands villian can raise with what % of those hands fall into the subset that he can actually call with?

What exactly do you mean when you say our hand is rarely the 'best one'? What does 'best one' mean in this context? It's a semi-bluff remember...not a value shove.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pretending this is someone else HH and looking just at the betting pattern, what hand would you think Hero has?

donk as a friend im goin to encourage you to sharpen up your hand reading skills, that is whats lacking in your game. hands like this arent goin to help you be unexploitable, and probably in fact the opposite.

I think it ok in a blind vs. btn situation. I do this too often, but thats still a low frequency. FWIW, I don't think playing a big pair like this OTB is very bad as it will also keep the blinds from playing back.

Yeti Theorem.

I do this very seldomly and only against very specific opponents - ie: I think they're FOS or they'll raise with 77 and fold to a push.

Unless I'm tilting. Then I do this too much.

simple fact is that in situations like this, a "float" type of line is better. if you shove the donkey knows you are full of [censored] yourself, a call can be scarier.

I would play a big pr and even a set the same way as this fwiw - not every time but probably the majority of the time.

To answer someone elses Q: Villian has to put me on a big pair, a set, or air. No other hands make any sense..there are basically no draws and TP/small overpairs wouldn't play like this.

I'm not suggesting anyone should attempt to make plays like this out of the blue. You need to do it often, both with big hands and bluffs, for it to have any shot at being +ev.

That is why I posted it as a general strat post...to stimulate discussion on the theory. I know if you look at the hand in a bubble it looks a little weird.

Also I'm not neccessarily promoting this strategy either - just wondering who makes these plays and who doesn't, and why.

Maybe..its not a 'simple fact' though.

The problem with that is alot of the time villain will fire the turn anyway and if I'm UI I'll have to fold.

yeah but if you call hell have to put you on an over pair, and if he fires at you again, id say you saved money.

Never, but then again I am a good player.

Hoo Hoo, but seriously this could be a middling pp looking to see if it's "good" or not. But It could also be a set or tricky trappy big pair. I think it's best to not play guessing games for your stack when there are so many clear cut and better spots. And they won't leave you guessing about your play later on. Which will make it less likely that you will ever tilt.
