Re: Keyshawn to retire
[ QUOTE ]
I just compiled a list of QB's that Keyshawn had throwing him the ball. It's completely BRUTAL: Glenn Foley, Neil O'Donnell, Frank Reich, Rutgers Ray Lucas, Vinny Testaverde, Rick Mirer, Shaun King, Eric Zeier, Brad Johnson, Rob Johnson, Drew Henson, Drew Bledsoe, Jake Delhomme, Chris Weinke His big year in '98 also coincided with Vinny's big year in '98. [/ QUOTE ] this is true and I considered it - but a lot of these guys were at least NFL average for starting QBs at the time. |

Probably talked himself out a deal . . [/ QUOTE ] Jeff Fisher: We like your ability. What do you think you can bring to the Titans next year? Keyshawn: I've still got good hands. I'm still reliable and I think working with a veteran like myself will help Vince Young's development. By the way, do you know of a good pitbull breeder in the area? |

Re: Keyshawn to retire
Also, this is terrible news because I was hoping for a sequel to "Throw Me the Damned Ball".

Re: Keyshawn to retire

[ QUOTE ] he can probably make more money as an analyst for someone. [/ QUOTE ] Do analysts really make that much? I assume he was paid millions last year and could probably command $1M+ with a team this year. [/ QUOTE ] That may be true but I think being an analyst is a lot easier and less unhealthy. I'm pretty sure he was looking for something like $3m+. |

story here No deal with Titans, Keyshawn Johnson had 70 catches last year, surprised no team wants him. [/ QUOTE ] Keyshawn set the starting price for his services at $2.5M. Hence, no real takers offers etc. |

Re: Keyshawn to retire
he must have definitely hampered his own efforts with his mouth...no way everyone in the nfl turned down someone with his steady stats and good blocking skills...

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I could see where no longer having to go through the rigors of training camp etc. would be attractive, but leaving as much as $2M+ on the table for six months worth of work seems tough to do. EDIT: and I'm sure this is why most athletes - particularly football players - become incredible fatasses after they retire. |

Re: Keyshawn to retire

this is true and I considered it - but a lot of these guys were at least NFL average for starting QBs at the time. [/ QUOTE ] I agree that alot of these guys were average at the time. But he really never played with anyone other than Vinny in 1998 that was a top QB at the time. We can probably say that for alot of receivers though. What if the Jets took Marvin Harrison at #1 in 1996 and the Colts nabbed Keyshawn? I wonder how much these two players careers would have differed then? Maybe someone with some knowledge of how big a factor a QB is to their WR's success can chime in. Has FO or someone else studied that at all? |

Re: Keyshawn to retire
Pretty sure good QBs do more to make their receivers look good (stats wise) then vice versa.
