The thing I don't get is why Jen (Phil, too, but especially Jen) would be interested in sponsorship a all.

She's a highly accomplished movie star who (as we know) has made tens of millions of dollars in Hollywood,

I've just finished reading Anthony Holden's follow-up to Big Deal, (I think it's called Bigger Deal -- readable, but a big disappointment.)

Anyway, Holden is writing about the massive commercialization of the WSOP, and he talks about how he came across these automated poker tables which seemed a bit like video games, with no dealers, no cards, etc. etc.

As he's pondering this monstrosity, he notices somebody who looks just like the Unabomber, getting all excited about how wonderful these things are. Then he notices that it *is* the Unabomber, who's being paid to pimp them on behalf of the company.

Holden was pretty disgusted by the whole business.

She's a highly accomplished movie star who (as we know) has made tens of millions of dollars in Hollywood, so I would think she'd have little interest in shilling for an online gambling site or learning Cantonese "in order to be useful." Lolovert. And with a sugar momma like that, no way I'd be trying to put on an ugly jersey for a poker site, if I were Phil.

Shaniac:

Repeat after me: OPM, OPM, OPM...

OPM, as in "Other People's Money"

Given the choice between risking your own money and risking OPM with a 90% probability of losing all of it, the choice is obvious: OPM.

I am willing to bet my rent money that if the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) were to offer Jennifer Tilly a mid-six-figure per year deal (in U.S. dollars) to be the spokesperson for HKJCPoker.com with the condition that she had to be able to conduct TV interviews in Cantonese within 3 months of signing, Jennifer would hire a private Cantonese tutor in a nanosecond.

She's multi-lingual....I believe.

It came up during a PAD episode when Laak said they both had to fly out in an hour to film oversees.

Then Anthony Holden is just being a hypocrite.

The reason why there is a market for Mr. Holden's sequel is because of the massive commercialization of poker, driven by television and further fueled by online poker.

I kinda thought the same thing but more along the lines of them both having enough money and not wanting to be tied down to any commitments. Especially Jennifer.

As an aside -- I just browsed her IMDB. She was Candi on Cheers. One of my favorite quotes of all time:

Candi -- "Well, I think..."

Fraser Craine -- "Candi, You were not put on this earth to think."

It's better when you watch it.

Are you joking?

Tilly was basically a B movie actress. People in Hollywood blow through money worse than gamblers. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she was near busto (other than her apparently rich ex hubby). Most actresses of Tilly's level are doing local commercials and infomercials at this stage.

I think I remember hearing about that guy going on howard stern and saying she came away with 30 or 40 million dollars from the whole deal.

So ya, that's a lot of money if true and I don't think she's going to learn Cantonese in 3 months for a mid six figure deal.

Hey Oliver, how's JJ Liu doing?

She fired me on March 30, after I forced her to do so. I had determined that it was inappropriate for me to do any new work on her behalf.
