i have a ps2 problem. i plug in a control and i know its connected because i can click analog and get it to light red, but when i press the controller keys, the PS2 doesnt react. [/ QUOTE ] If you're using a PS1 controller, some PS2 games will only work with PS2 controllers. Otherwise, use the PS2 without any game in it and go into the browser to see if you can access your memory cards with the controller. If not, then maybe your controller isn't plugged in as securely as you think, or borrow another one and try it then. |

The PS2 optical drive is widely known to be faulty, resulting in Disc Read Errors. The earliest drives suffered from a constantly misaligning laser lens but later defects were the result of a shift in voltage to the laser itself. The first problem was relatively easy to remedy, but it required opening the machine's casing and tweaking a cog that controlled the lens' distance from the discs it was supposed to read. The second fix involves the use of an oscillator.
Another issue causing DRE's is wear on the part coupling the head assembly to the worm gear that moves the laser. A symptom of this is a loud repetitive clicking sound. The part is commonly plastic and prone to wear or break. Metal replacements are available from third parties. Sounds like your laser is on its way out. Don't fret, theres still some hope! Try the following: http://arstechnica.com/articles/paed...ware/ps2.ars/3 http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserPS2.htm http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...Guides/ps2diy/ If that fails, I'd buy/steal a new laser assembly. |

It happened to me too a couple of weeks ago. All you need to do is carefully clean the lens and if it doesn't help you will have to replace it. There is a very good tech support site that have some information about various PS2 problems and other product. I highly recommend it, they also have free like chat support.
