If he continues to appear aligned with Sharpton it will not be good for him.

I don't think anyone even thinks he appears to be aligned with Sharpton.

I doubt a poll on Imus would show the majority of people knew exactly who Imus was, or cared who he was, let alone care if he got fired for making racist remarks for 30 years.

Many conservative groups have latched on to the Muslim cashiers in Minesotta, Duke Lax case, and Don Imus controversy as talking parts, at least where I go to school.

The right wing-nut echo chamber is fired up and will be repeating "aligned with Sharpton" until the election.

Example: Obama, aligned with Sharpton, today said that drinking milk is good. Many Obama supporters denied that the drinking milk statement had anything to do with Al Sharpton, but that can be expected from liberals flip-flopping on issues. Jesse Jackson, also aligned with Sharpton, and an Obama supporter, refused to comment.

This is Fox News style debate. Why do people think that is a way to make their point?

Sharpton and Jackson are wonderful people who care about the black community. The media hates this and smears them. If the media tells you someone is horrible, like Howard Dean, you should probobly support them.

Calling for Imus to be fired. I don't think that Clinton or Edwards did it. It was a somewhat extreme position. A more moderate position would be apology, suspension and some type of positive action by Imus.

[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think Imus should have been fired, but won't shed a tear because he was. Regardless, saying Obama is in the same league as Sharpton and Jackson just because he said Imus should be fired is, for lack of a better word, ridiculous.

I don't think you read me correctly. Just saying on this issue he took the position (I believe it was a somewhat extreme position) that agreed with Sharpton's position. If he continues to appear aligned with Sharpton it will not be good for him.

This is politics my friend. Do you really think politicians have integrity? Obama is counseled by people that monitor 'public sentiment' and the like.

Who is more of a voter base not to 'piss off':

Imus loyalists or
Black voters (and others) who want Imus fired

Maybe Obama doesn't even think Imus should be fired (this is the first I"m hearing of that as I don't follow the news) but is saying so because he sublimates his integrity for votes and rationalizes doing so.

I don't think it matters that much what position Obama took on Imus. Obama is black and many white voters resent what happened to Imus and to anyone who says something "racist".

In any case, there is no way a black will be elected President. What people say and how they vote are different.
