You can withdraw checks more than 5k. Just request something below 5k and then try again a little while later for something below 5k. Stars will cancel the first check and then send you the next one for how much you wanted total.

I've gotten a few checks from Stars and they took 3days at most. I've had no problems depositing them at the BofA ATM either.
