Hand 1: I raise a little less and call the push without a read that he is a nit.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why not open push if you're going to call the all in any way?

You don't HAVE To shove JJ, but it is unexploitable and significantly +EV to push there.

With TT... I think this is a good case for a SnG. You very likely have no fold equity pre-flop, but maybe on the flop, and you definitely aren't folding TT anyways.

Hand 1 is clearly All-In or fold, and definitely read-dependent.

Hand 2 is standard, unless the button is a nit.

BTW...games where you can have JJ or TT sooooted are RIGGED.

Why do we need villain to fold? I think we have his range beat at this point.

Because it's the bubble of a tournament, and with an M of around 5, fold equity is our best friend.

This is a 1 table tournament, not a MTT. As long as villian is open raising more that 22% then pushing pf is +cEV.

Agreed.

But does not the concept of Magriel's "M" also apply to 1-table SnGs?

We do have his range beat, I agree.

But say he was A8 or KT. He is never folding for 1000 more pf. But, he'll most likely fold A8 on a QJ4 flop and KT on an A96 flop. When he does that, he misses out on the opportunity to hit one of his 3 outs on the turn or river. When we push pf, he gets to see the turn and river everytime.

Reads would be really nice. Without them I'm stacking off with both of them, although I'm not pleased about either.

How can anyone seriously suggest anything other than re-reraising all-in with a smile on our face on hand 1. I would raise to 2.5BB because I want action, I certainly wouldn't be open shoveing. Jacks is after all the 4th best opening hand in holdem'.

Hand 2 is close. We are only slightly ahead of SB and one blind steal would put them ahead. Against an average villian I think we have just enougth fold equity to make it a push. A good player however is not raising there with the intention of folding if one of the short stacks push, so we would have to fold to a good player.
