However, 100% of people don't care when you check and wait for a bet to fold.

Some people do it because they dont want to pick up anything on the turn and be tempted to make a call. Others do it when they are steaming to show frustration. Other people are really drunk.

In any of these circumstances, the person is not behaving like a poker player

2) Where I play, the dealer will not proceed in this situation until all hands are face up on the table

[/ QUOTE ]

For cash games? Is this a room in NV or CA?

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. There is no Vegas room that makes you turn your hand face up in a cash game.

However, if I am holding then nuts (or a very obvious winner), I always turn my hand up. However, if my hand is marginal or I think it is a loser, I will wait until the end. If I called him, I will wait to see his hand if mine is marginal. If I was called, I usually always flip it up immediately.

Also, checking out (i.e. folding when checked to) is VERY common in NL games 2/5 and smaller in Vegas and I have never seen a player reprimanded for it at the table by a dealer (reprimanded by a player once or twice, but that is it).

I had heard that a room spreads a small NL where they do turn them up to make it "just like on TV." That may have not been popular, but I am sure there are some rooms somewhere that don't understand the difference and require the players to turn hands up. After hearing about different things that go on in different rooms it would take a lto to suprise me anymore.

MS. Actually should rephrase that to say that if no player involved objects they will run it face down, but if one of them requests all hands be face up the dealer will turn them up before proceedin

Two separate issues:

1) misdemenor? bad form but, not against the rules

2) but is it good etiquette to keep your hole cards down like that? I had a heart-wrenching beat in this situation where I’d put another player all in on the turn with a set and he declined to show until he made his flush happens too often

...slow-rolled people in these situations...Is this also rude? yes. I pushed with 77 representing the 5 on a 955 flop and was callled. I flipped my cards, he did not. He was slow rolling me with his 9 and had the nerve to be pissed when I sucked out with a beautiful river 7 - JUSTICE

Folding to no bet is very poor form. You're giving players information to which they are not entitled. Just don't do it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I might be considered "rude," but as long as you are not colluding and playing by the rules, I wouldn't consider it giving anyone information for which they are not entitled. The advantage of playing a pot in position is in fact being able to see all the action before you.

Especially in a tournament (yeah lol donkaments), folding to a check can be an okay play. For example, in an online SnG I played, I was in the BB and got to see a free flop after the SB and another player called. For various reasons, it was to my advantage for the SB to lose the hand. (We were on the bubble and he was getting short stacked, etc.) So when the SB checked the flop, I folded my garbage, giving the other player a better opportunity to take away the pot (which he did).

The player in the SB got angry at me, since my fold gave an "advantage" to the other player. As far as I'm concerned, my play did in fact give me +EV, and since it's within the rules, it's perfectly acceptable. Why wouldn't I make a play that increases my chance of winning?
