Aba had once posted that betting/raising for information against good players (especially?) OOP was bad.

I see. Is betting for information always bad now? Or only against good players?

A bet for information is basically a question: is your hand better than mine? A good opponent will know the right answer very often and sometimes answer "yes it is" when he's behind anyway. But a weak opponent will often be wrong in assessing where he stands.

If a weak opponent tends to call with weaker hands, my bet for information has a value component. If he folds better hands than it has a bluff component.

Actually neither is a pure information bet. Thus, the bet size should not differ from that of a value bet or a bluff.

what Aba said, and he was correct, was that betting for information on a drawy board vs an aggressive opponent was bad. this is because an aggressive opponent is going to play lots of draws as aggressively as he will play the nuts, so you dont really get any information. there arent a lot of spots where betting for information is a good idea in general though, and i think most of them are spots with very deep effective stacks against very easy to read opponents

Playing the Nuts on the River

Many players don't lay down good hands on the river. Even when they think they should.

Take advantage! When you have the nuts (or near nuts) make that extra large bet or raise.

Here is a hand I played today that illustrates this example.

lol so suckout and then bet big? not a very good strategy. i get what you are trying to say, but thats not a good example at all.

good players will quickly pickup on you overbetting the river and it will become more and more -ev each time you do it. its a good way to get paid against a bad player often, or a good player once, but unless you are willing to make this play with a bluff every once in awhile, it is very easy to adjust too.
