Re: \"Looking Like a Winner\"
"Do not wear poker champion shirts or jackets. People really tighten up their play when they see these. If you are in fact a champion, you probably don't care, but if you're just a big fan, you are losing opportunities to take advantage."
That's news to me. In my experience, people with WSOP jackets and stuff are some of the biggest fish at the table with some of the biggest egos. I like having them, and their chips, around. |

There was a guy at my table last night with a pokerstars shirt on. At first I was going to tighten up my play... until I realize he was nothing but a donkafied maniac. You should have seen some of the hands this guy was playing. He ended up busting out after about three hours on the table. It was a real shame that I was dealt absolute crap for the seven hours I was at the table (no AA/KK/QQ for me). |

I dunno...other than the fact that sitting at a table looking like a complete slob ensures -EV with any single hotties who might be in the poker room (Hawbacker excepted), only a fool would read anything into anything anyone else actually wears to the table. |

single hotties who might be in the poker room [/ QUOTE ] Maybe this is different elsewhere, but in the Bay Area, this comment makes no sense whatsoever. |

[/ QUOTE ] By that same logic, I should be dressing up to go to the grocery store and the gas station. It's not that it's unheard-of to find "single hotties" in a poker room, it's just way, way less likely than pretty much any other indoor space on the planet. Save your getting dolled up for the nightclub or wherever it is kids go these days. Stick to good old decent personal hygiene in the poker room and you'll be fine. |

Re: \"Looking Like a Winner\"
I'm going to add one more go to hell to the author. I shower, put deoderant on, brush my teeth, and wear clean clothes. I feel that fulfills my obligations to any other players/staff in the room. Sitting hunched over a table for 14 hours is uncomfortable enough, that I'm not going to add to that by wearing uncomfortable clothes. My hoody sweaters and jeans are good enough for me.
Although I would like to see more people being polite. I [censored] hate the grumpy crotchety people that bitch and whine at other players and the dealer. |

Re: \"Looking Like a Winner\" - RANT
[ QUOTE ]
On a trip to Las Vegas last month, I couldn't help but notice how disappointing the attire in the nice poker rooms was... [/ QUOTE ] This kind of statement always sets me off in a big way. My attire/image/etc. is really nobody's business but my own (other than personal hygiene). I am not on display nor do I feel obligated to conform to anyone else's sense of aesthetics. "I play cards for money, not for the thrill of victory..." (well, not to imply that I'm a winning player) [ QUOTE ] Leave the baseball caps at home. Basically, if you are old enough to get into a casino, you are old enough to leave home without the baseball cap. If you think that your cap covers your eyes so other players can’t see your tells, it doesn’t. Wear sunglasses if that is a concern for you. I can't believe I actually have to write this, but I saw it with my own eyes, leave the stocking caps at home too. [/ QUOTE ] Obviously Joe Navarro (FBI Interrogator) should have consulted with the 'fashion police' before writing in his book about covering up tells with a hat! [ QUOTE ] Imagine that even though you are at the $1/$2 tables, you may be treated any moment like a high roller and comped dinner at one of the nice restaurants. [/ QUOTE ] Except that you won't! This is poker we're talking about ($10 comp at the buffet) not $1K Baccarat. I could keep going, but you get the picture. |
