Re: BRAG: Bought an HD-DVD player last night
LURKER FOR THE WIN = biggest [censored] I have ever seen on 2+2 and i cannot believe that at 5 am I am gonna go dig up all the articles to back up basic logic that anybody who has been following this crap knows. Jesus christ you are a MORON.
1. One of Australia's biggest consumer electronics retailers, JB Hi-Fi, has wholeheartedly jumped on the Blu-ray bandwagon by announcing it won't be stocking the rival HD-DVD optical disc format-- http://www.arnnet.com.au/index.php/i...p;4;fpid;56735 2. Blu-Ray Outsells HD-DVD 2:1-- http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multime...202090024.html This is mostly due to the Playstation 3. Just as PS2 boosted sales of DVD and helped it to dominate (100 million+ DVD's worldwide surely helps to boost a format), PS3 is doing the same for blu-ray. Every single PS3 sold is a blu-ray player sold. Sony is the market leader in the videogame industry and will soon be churning out 2 million PS3's a month-- thus 2 million blu-ray players. Obvioulsy the things I say about HD-DVD being dead in 2 years is simply my opinion-- but its an opinion that's based on the facts and basic logic-- theres no reason to go the HD-DVD route, NONE WHATSOEVER, especially standalone. If you already unfortunately chose to get an Xbox 360 then this is understandable, but if you're just buying a standalone HD-DVD player that is so retarded it is beyond words. From the first link in case you're too lazy to click skiierguy you stupid slime eating whoremongering IDIOT-- Major Australian retailer chooses a winner early. Some pleasing news for Sony came out of the official launch for Blu-ray this morning with JB Hi-Fi confirming that they'll only be stocking Blu-ray discs and not HD DVDs. "Blu-ray is the only format that has the ability to tell the whole story, with the most comprehensive offering on the market," said JB Hi-Fi Marketing Director Scott Browning. "With seven of Hollywood's leading studios accounting for the vast majority of 2006's home video sales, among the 170 plus companies globally that support Blu-ray disc, it makes sense that content will be king when it comes to Blu-ray." "Indeed this is the reason that we have decided to only stock Blu-ray products at JB Hi-Fi. The range of exciting new film and TV releases as well as the potential back catalogue means that we can deliver everyone's favourite films on Blu-ray." This isn't a good sign for HD DVD backers, but considering the discs are region free, if you're a fan you may have to import - or of course head to another retailer. JESUS CHRIST I AM SICK AND TIRED OF RUNNING INTO DUMB PEOPLE ON TEH INTERNETS........MY HEAD IS GONNA EXPLODE-- someone cue the Cronenberg head exploding pic please TY GG MORON. |

Re: BRAG: Bought an HD-DVD player last night
[ QUOTE ]
There was one week where all the Sony fanboys were beating off about how Blu-Ray outsold HD-DVD in the "New Release" category, so they all latched on to it. Only problem? No HD-DVD "New Releases" for that week. I've heard HD-DVD is the winner here too, but you just can't talk to fanboys. [/ QUOTE ] This is correct. Who the hell cares anyways? The combo players will win in the end anyways, but I didn't want to drop $1200 for the LG combo player. This is nothing more than a repeat of the DVD +/- R debacle. And guess what? The combo players won. Then the studios can hash out all their bs in the background and not effect the end consumer. |

Re: BRAG: Bought an HD-DVD player last night
I want a Toshiba HD-XA2, SD-DVD upscaling is supposed to be absolutely spectacular, 1080p24 output as well.
However, I'm probably just gonna buy an Xbox360 + HD-DVD add-on. I'm waiting for the rumored black, HDMI, 120gb version to come out in April. I might buy a PS3 too, but it doesn't seem like it has any good games yet. |

Re: BRAG: Bought an HD-DVD player last night
So Venom, you are basically saying that Blu-ray is winning in Australia. Great, no one cares.
HD-DVD, with the backing of the porn industry, is going to win in America if combo players don't come down in price. Porn led to VHS over Beta, it will lead the way here too. |

Re: BRAG: Bought an HD-DVD player last night
weren't a lot of movies available on beta and VHS? I think that both are going to coexist and combo players (in one drive) will be the standard.
