How did the supervisor arrive at this decision?

[/ QUOTE ]I believe this is irrelevant. Lets say it was random.

[/ QUOTE ]

IMO it's the only relevant factor.

If he rolled a die then it is fair. Maybe a little dumb, but everyone had an equal shot at the good roll, and it's not a life-destroying circumstance, so whatever.

If he just closed his eyes and pick one I think it's unfair, not because of randomness but because random and arbitrary are not the same thing.

If he did it by say who was taller then he is discriminating on an irrelevant factor so that's unfair IMO. And I know someone is going to come in and say genes are random so why is that different from the dice? The main difference is that a short person will be short all his life while I know of no one that always loses die rolls.

Seems that employee A was given preferential treatment, which is unfair to both B and C.

[/ QUOTE ]

The supervisor.

How so?

[/ QUOTE ]

I was being somewhat facetious. Just taking the point of view of management. He was put it a tough spot by the workers when they all asked for more than they were entitled to.

That's along the lines of the way I was seeing it, although I wouldn't term it unfair to him because solving staffing issues is what he is entitled to :-)
There are so many factors that could come into play in his decision ( besides some unethical ones) that would make his choices sound. It did strike me though that 'unfair' likely doesn't apply if you are receiving what you bargained for.

Sure, the supervisor could have just said "eff off."
At least this way he's doing something about the request!

I voted everyone was treated fairly

Did they all ask for the time off at the exact same moment?

This is the longest way of asking for a definition I've ever seen.
Here it is: unfair
