pretty cool gestalty. ambitious, determined, thorough.

just remember to go outside every once in a while.

oh, and to eat and use the lavatory

a nice post for folks who are seriously serious about poker!

are you thinking about working toward professional play then?

but as these guys said, be patient. rome wasn't built in a day. i'm damn new, but to me poker is like math: there's just a limit to how much you can learn in a short period.

but really good on you! good luck with all the analysis, i'll be sure to avoid you at the tables.

Lol yeah I see the light of day every now and then . lol, and no i dont have any kind of plans to go pro. My goal from poker at this point is to learn it. Maybe down the road i can make enough to pay for my college! My intention is to get my degree in math or physics or some sort of computer science... Im not sure yet, something along those lines. If I go for physics, im going to try to get my PHD so needless to say its going to cost me quite a bit. I guess this is why I have such a strong desire to learn poker and to learn it well.

Dont burn yourself out Gestalt. Also set reasonable poker goals. If you aim too high and fall short you'll lose a lot of momentum and end up stunting your growth.

I can tell from experience that you're aiming too high. You're counting on a lot of BRUTE FORCE with your reviews, and that'll end up making you not like to play poker.

Read Tommy's articles on reciprocality. Work on getting yourself in 'the zone' while playing, and work hard on not playing when you're out. That's very very difficulty btw.

Whilst he *may* get paid a stipend once he is a permanent researcher on his way to his PhD it is probable that his BSc and MSc will take several years and cost him a lot of money to obtain.

Gestalt,

I'm just about to submit my PhD in psychology in the UK. The USA system is much different of course, and a PhD in physics would be much different from Psychology (probably alot less stats for one!) but if you'd like to ask any questions about what doctoral research is like, just send me a PM.

Generally, PhD studies are free in the UK assuming you do a great deal of teaching.
Generally, if you're a UK citizen (which i'm not, crap!) you have a decent chance of getting a funded PhD, but it's not a slam-dunk like in the US.

If, however, you do not already have a BS in physics or CS, I would recommend in the strongest possible terms that you do so before seriously considering a PhD. You wouldn't marry a girl before going on a couple of dates, would you ?

You might be able to find someone on these forums with a PhD in physics or CS. It wouldn't surprise me at all. But failing that, feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions about what phd life is like.

I definitely dont have any kind of degree yet... give me a break im still only 18! But, I cant tell you that I love knowledge and I love to learn. I can tell you that if I could, I would go to school my entire life. I can also tell you that there is broad variety of subjects that i want to know everything i can about. Ive listed a few here ([censored] maybe i should just play poker, kidding ) but there are many more.

Nice post Gestalt. Like other posters said, don't try to do too much. If you do half of what you posted here, you will make some big improvements as a poker player. You gave me some good ideas, though. I usually just review every hand where I VPIP in PT and post here. I might start doing some of the things you posted.
