It would be sweet to have him playing in MLS.

[/ QUOTE ]

would he be the best player?

[/ QUOTE ]eh...probably not.

[/ QUOTE ]

I admit I don't really know the league but Beckham is still a world class player

[/ QUOTE ]

He is not world class anymore... that said he would be top 3 imo in the MLS

yeah he would definitely be one of the best players in MLS if he came here. But the best? Doubtful.

Who are the candidates that could be considered better? Landon Donovan? Carlos Ruiz? Taylor Twellman? I don't see anyone who is in Beckham's class, even now.

Yes he's still world class, the best crosser of the ball in the world and his defense is overlooked as he might not be the most talented defensively, but he makes up for it with effort. Also, he is a top 5 free kick taker in the world as well. He is a still a decent playmaker.

He only stopped being world class when someone at Real Madrid decided he would be a good defensive midfielder

Fabio Capello thinks everybody can be a good defensive midfielder with enough "coaching", a.k.a. being instructed not to cross the half way line.

It may be a little foggy as to who is better, but basically I don't think that if Beckham shows up in MLS he is instantly the best player in MLS. DeRosario, Ching, Twellman, Moreno, etc. There are several good players in MLS.

Don't MLS teams pay their players like nothing?

What would be the incentive for anyone to be a very good MLS player?

Large untapped US market for endorsements, etc?

and a move to europe.

Top MLS players can make like 250K a year right now. If the MLS started paying their players tons, they'd go bankrupt and MLS is trying to stay around for the long haul and not be a flash in the pan like the NASL was.

as far as if becks would be the best player in the league, lets just see if he actually arrives in the MLS first before speculating as he could very well go to italy. Getting him and some other top talent that is starting on teh downside of their careers would be great. Personally I'd rather see the MLS use that money to bring in young exciting players that can be marketed well. The problem with the league isn't top name players, its the slow and brooding style of play.

KDawg, good point actually. There should be several young players out there in Europe that are probably more exicting and cheaper than Beckham. I have doubts though whether any of them would ever want to start out in MLS though. But yeah, MLS teams should be looking in that direction.
