But then couldn't you argue that Mangini should get the argument since they were both in the same ballpark at the end of the year and Mangini did it with less?

[/ QUOTE ]

My thing is you can make the case for both, but there's not too many things that you can make the same case for both on. So we could go back and forth all day with examples that make Payton better and others that make Mangini better.

Well, that doesn't make sense. Why penalize Payton because he put together a better team?

[/ QUOTE ]

Its not penalizing him. Its giving Mangini more credit because he did more with less. Isnt that what a great coach does?

[/ QUOTE ]

The major thing is that the Jets didn't do anything that incredible. They had a very easy schedule and aside from the Patriots, they beat every team they were favored to beat and lost to every team they were an underdog to. Whoopie.

I don't disagree with your point in regards to this COTY discussion. I would however like to point out that the Jets were road dogs to Miami in week 16. Continue.

Good luck to us tomorrow.

Racism. Lovie Smith should have won this year.

[/ QUOTE ]

He's disqualified for not benching Rex.

Saints are going to the Superbowl & voters like to pick coaches that succeed, not necessarilly the best coach.

Even if you feel Mangini was slightly more deserving, this is not anywhere near the top of a long history of award screwups.

Jets didn't win division or get a bye and a home game in the playoffs, but the Saints did. So I would say Manginni did less with less. Also building the team/ getting the right personnel is part of it. Also Payton worked with a new qb and a ton of other new players, having to get them on the same page. He kepted a very good running back happy despite drafting another running back with the number two pick. He kept the number two pick happy. He got the best pick of the draft with Colston. He kept Horn happy despite big ego and small numbers. He works for one of the worst owners in the league. I would say he was very deserving, although Mangini was also.
