i find it interesting that you expect a game developer to go from "use the arrows to aim, now hit a to start your power meter and hit a again to stop it" which has been used for like 25 years to suddenly go right to [ QUOTE ] I wan't to be able to swing the WiiMote like a golf club and have it accurately detect the plane, clubhead speed, position of the WiiMote at impact (open/closed face etc), and follow-through, if not much much more. [/ QUOTE ] i mean, come on. [/ QUOTE ] Not to mention that if I wanted to consistently shoot in the 90s I'd just go play golf. I want to master a videogame, and with uber-realistic physics, that sounds like an exercise in total frustration. Eff that. |

I've only played three games so far, but here's what I thought:
Wii Sports: really simple controls and honestly feels more like a demo disc than a proper game, but the games are very fun. Tennis is amazingly fun, great as a party game (if you have lots of room!) Tires out your arm, but it's so fun you won't care. Zelda: Almost beat it right now and I've enjoyed it. The level design is beautiful and the controls are a lot of fun. I wish it had a little more combat action, but then I'm the kind of person that will play endurance mode on Dynasty Warriors for hours on end. Excitetruck: This was the first game I played and it completely turned me off of the Wii. The Wiimote's horizontal orientation is so unreasonably awfully bad. I will never play a game that uses that 1 and 2 buttons. |

Got my wii with sports, zelda, tony hawks and rayman.
There's enough comments on sports and zelda and I haven't played rayman yet so I'll talk about tony hawks. Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam: A twist on the usual Tony Hawk's series of games. You race other skaters through down-hill courses using the wii remote to steer and do tricks. You hold the Wii remote on it's side so that your left thumb is on the D-Pad and your right thumb is on the 1 and 2 buttons. You tilt the pad from left to right for steering, button 2 is the usual tony hawks speed/jump button and also does hold tricks in the air, button 1 grinds and does flip tricks in the air. Doing tricks increases your boost bar and you can shake the Wii remote to do a boost. I'm not too keen on the stadnard racing levels. Tony Hawk's games have never really been about racing other skaters. Luckily there are variations such as levels where you try to cause as much damage as yo can, slap as many people as you can, get as many points as you can with tricks etc. and these levels are lots of fun. At first I thought the steering method was annoying and lame. It seemed really unresponsive. (I guess that's what hmkpoker is saying about Excite Truck?) I'd say it took over an hour until I was comfortable with it but now I think it's fine..... just takes some getting used to. Graphics are nothing special. Pretty much gamecube standard. But some of the later courses are some very nice eye candy. A decent game all in all but maybe would be a better game to rent for a weekend rather than buy. |

Controllers since genesis have been ergonomically modeled to fit nicely in the palms of your hand and now...this. It's worse than the original NES controller. |

I don't think the horizontal orientation is that bad. |

[/ QUOTE ] I would advise against geting Call of Duty 3. I don't like FPSs anyway so I'm probably biased, but my roommate does like them and he thinks COD3 is pretty mediocre. At least rent it or something before dropping the $50. I finally got around to getting Super Monkey Ball. I'm impressed. Like other people have said, there are some really fun party games and the single-player mode is pretty fun too. |

My 9-year would play the Monkeyball mini-games all night. Rayman is great for the Party game aspect. I think we spent close to an hour hammer throwing that cow last night.
Zelda - Awesome. Marvel Alliance -- We only play with 4 people and it's fun. However it does get repetitive. I grew up reading Marvel comics so I am definitely not teh most unbiased source here. |

Finally scored a Wii last week when I went into my local EB games on a whim and asked when they would be in...snagged the last one. Sweet.
Elebits - Unique game that makes good use of the wiimote and chuck. Its another wacky Japanese gem like pikmin although it falls just short of pikmin in my opinion. Controls You have a capture gun which you aim with the remote. Use the chuck to move around. Its a bit like a FPS but without the gore. You open cabinets and turn doorknobs with the remote twisting the remote and pulling back. Game Play: Catch the elebits and charge up your capture gun. The gun moves furniture and break stuff depending on how many watts of elebits you've captured. With a good charge, you can fling pianos around. Overall, unique concept and fun game thats good for the kids. |
