I thought he seemed like a classy guy right up until he pulled that I'm retired....now I'm on your division rival stunt.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah, what was the deal there? wiki says he was released in March, then retired in August. I guess he was at training camp but hadn't made the team yet when he retired?

[/ QUOTE ]
His agent obviously sucks for letting him take such a PR hit. If he had any interest in playing again he should have checked other teams interest before he made the announcement of retirement.

[/ QUOTE ]

He did...his agent got back to him that no teams(that he was interested in) were interested in him as a starter.
then he decided just to hang em up..then NE came calling

[/ QUOTE ]
WTF, did NE have an injury that very day or something? The whole thing just doesn't make sense.

I think Rodney Harrison called him and convinced him to come to NE. why he didn't do it months before, I dunno.

NE may just not have been on his radar.
Also there was a ton of talk during pre season that Ne was going to look to trade for LB help...so they may have just decided that Seau was orth the gamble

Seau was blowing kisses to the fans, and you could read his lips: "Thank you. Thank you."

He knew he was walking off the field for the last time.

I was disappointed when the Pats signed him. I was never a Seau fan. But he played much better than I expected of him this season. I was sad to see him KO'd.

A Pats-funded retirement party would be at McDonalds.

I figured he had a strong enough season to at least think about next year, but that arm injury was savage.

the Patriots spend as much (or more) than any other team in the NFL.

even if you go by salary cap (which isn't the best way), this is the first year in many they have had lots of room

while they do let guys walk over money, though, it has nothing to do with them being cheap. They just spend it on other lesser known guys. Over the past 5-6 years they have spent as much as anyone, but they get the reputation for not spending a lot b/c they let some stars sign for big money with other teams, and redistribute it over the whole roster.

again, this is the first year (which isn't even over it, and things could change) that they have been under the cap by any sig. amount.

in 2005 they were $44,560 under!
in 2004 they were $1.3m under
in 2003 they were right at the cap limit
in 2002 they were $2.7m under

does that really sound like a team that lets people walk b/c they're cheap?
