Meh, perhaps I'm being results orientated, but I still feel that is weak.

FWIW, I pushed the river (which I think was a mistake in retrospect), he called w 77 and MHIG.

I can't see where he has played his hand badly before the river, and if a small PP is in his range, my calling the turn looks reasonable to my eye.

Should he play a small PP differently; if so how?

There is minimal call value from worse hands on the river, and only exposes you to pp JJ+ and the 6.
