I don't 4-bet the river -- opening myself up to a 5-bet sucks, since trip jacks will never be good when he 5-bets. [/ QUOTE ] Given the player were talking about, I wouldn't say it'd never be good. b |

But you give him too much credit. He had Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
I took chance by not charging him to draw. He may have folded had I raised the flop however so there is some value in letting maniacs bluff off their money |

That is why you should raise the flop. This may seem like results orientated analysis but I prefer a straightforward approach. |

You seem to be ignoring that. b |

I don't 4-bet the river -- opening myself up to a 5-bet sucks, since trip jacks will never be good when he 5-bets. [/ QUOTE ] Have you ever played casino poker against a maniac? Your read is miles away from reality. Against a true maniac (not just a pf maniac, post-flop lag), I'd go anywhere between 4 or 5 and a [censored] of bets on the river. Mostly it would depend on how confident I am that he'd go nuts with a pair, or worse trip jacks, and also how likely I think it is that he'll go broke before I get a better opportunity. If he's anything resembling short, I take him to the felt. If he's deep, I'd see how I felt about things as they went along. Worst case scenario, I lose the pot, but my chips are still live and in play, so all is not lost. |
