Re: Interview Skills--Help
Lots of good advice in this thread. My success rate has been fairly high in interviews when I really wanted the job, and I've gotten zilch when I wasn't that excited about it. Follow up can be key.
First I'd get a book on interviewing so you know what all the stupid questions are they are likely to throw at you. Secondly think of the whole process as a sales pitch. What you really want to do is ask a bunch of questions and get the interviewer to talk about himself. He'll think you're a good listener and that you understand his problems. So try to sell yourself to them and see if they buy. I know a lot of you are just starting out, so getting a regular job is a good idea. But you might want to think about the fact that everything is changing and more people are working independently. This means that you'll really need to learn to sell yourself rather than just give canned answers to interview questions. |

Re: Interview Skills--Help
[ QUOTE ]
and I stammer [/ QUOTE ]Don't worry about it. I get so excited and stammer during interviews, investor presentations, speeches, etc. and it will never go away for me. However, I don't let it get to me and I use that energy to my advantage . Heck, I have gotten a premium job where I was the least qualified candidate simply because I had that energy. Whenever I stammer I simply pause, take a breath, repeat something if I messed it up, and simply move on. It conveys confidence. So, have a plan and practice how to respond to stammering. Also, have friends interview you as it is impossible to self evaluate. I had my interviews taped very early in my career and there were so many things negative that I was doing that I was completely unaware of. Good luck. Stay positive and confidence and you will get a great job. |

Re: Interview Skills--Help
hey joe,
i would have to agree with the majority of the people and say that the interview is conquered in the prep. however, be aware of prepping the typical questions with typical answers. Just like poker, the action should depend on the situation. take these typical answers and give it a flavour relative to what your potential position/the company's objective is. this has really helped me spin some great BS during interviews as for the nervousness, prepping with friends is a great strategy. gl! |
