What does the check-raise accomplish here?

Yeah, I agree. F this. I check-fold the flop against this TAG. We are behind a huge percentage of time here.

With only one paint card, it's reasonably likely that the button is sitting there with AQ, AK, KQ, maybe 99/TT and thinking "Ah, crap...well I'm supposed to c-bet so I'll bet." He bets, and we checkraise with the best hand to blow away the field and make it less likely that a T on the turn or whatever will sink us.

I don't care for it five handed, but HU this is certainly a good move (he'll likely fold or call unprofitably), and it's hardly a bad idea three handed. Four's getting iffy but I might do it, but here I think there's just too many hole cards to dodge.

O.K., previous post sucked. Let me try to be more accurate. I stoved this, giving MP2 and MP3 pretty loose ranges (probably a fair assumption)--that is, the top 40% of hands. I gave a the button a range that represented your read: I had him raising with only the top 9% of hands. On this flop, here's what I found:

Hero: 19%
Button: 39%
MP2: 20%
MP3: 20%

If we CR and manage to fold out the others, here's how it changes.

Hero: 40%
Button: 60%

That's g00t. A CR that gets the jerks to fold doubles our equity vs. his range. Nonetheless, a read on his postflop play would be nice. If he is not the type to c-bet, you can exclude a lot of that range and our stength goes way down. I think it depends on who this villain is. If he is l33t and would be smart enough to take a free card here, I stick to my old post and argue that we should fold. But if he would c-bet, then I like the CR. The turn card, however, is t3h suck for us and we have to fold:

Hero: 20%
Button: 80%

Wait a minute, how many saw the flop here? Was there an all-in preflop? Looks like the conveter got confused. Still I wouldn't cbet if I were the button with overcards, but others might. Dunno.

Yeah, only 4 players saw the flop, I thought?

You are absolutely correct, I typed it myself because i couldnt find the hand history from the client so i took it from the replay in Pokeroffice.

It should be 4 players seeing the flop, so I must have mistyped it... My apologies.

OK, it seems like everyone agrees that i misplayed this one horribly at, at least from the turn re-raise and on.

Looking at the hand in retrospect I can only agree, could be due to the fact that I've only played 5-,6-handed last couple of months. Hopefully i'll learn to think a little more.

Thanks to everyone who posted and commented.

The hand he was holding was pocket kings.
