yea... i'm starting look at Ann Arbor now. There are a couple good craigslist postings.

"Two friendly 20-something full-time working females seeking a third roommate to occupy a three bedroom/three bathroom apartment in Lake Village Apartment Complex"

If you live in AA, actually live downtown--preferably in Kerrytown or the Old West Side. That gets you away from the students/frat houses, but keeps everything in walking distance. Lake Village/Village Greens/Etc. etc. are worthless. If you are considering living in one of the apartment tracts on the outskirts of Ann Arbor, just move to one of the Detroit suburbs listed above where your money will go further. Only reason to live in AA is if you live in easy walking distance of restauarants/bars/etc., otherwise live somewhere where students don't inflate the housing prices.

Also, check out some of the retro-fitted lofts in Detroit proper. The coolest buildings are more expensive, but they have excellent security and Detroit still has a number of spots with a fun nightlife.

Grosse Ile is the safest city in the state about 20 minutes south of Detroit. I used to live there. It's an island with dual bridges one free and one toll. About 2 miles wide and 8 miles long in the Detroit river. The adjacent city is Trenton which is the 2nd safest in terms of crime rate.

I don't know much about Detroit but I have been laughing for the last couple minutes at this line for some reason:
