Default End of the first round with the leaders at 2 under par...

Jane Park (amateur), Se Ri pak, Pat Hurst and Annika Sorenstam lead the Open at 2 under par after the first round. Wie is one shot back, Creamer and Ochoa are two shots back, Karrie Webb is 4 shots back, last year's runner up Morgan Preseel is 7 shots back, and the defending champ, Birdie Kim, is 10 shots back...

Se Ri Pak could be one of the most underrated women's golfers around. She already has 5 LPGA championships and more will come. Next to Sorenstam, she could also be one of the most clutch women's golfers of all time.

The big winner at this year's U.S. Women's Open very well may be Newport Country Club. What a special jewel in the American golf landscape.

Dude no way she is underrated...she hit a rough patch the last couple years..and of course is making her way up after winning the last major. She was inducted in the hall of fame in her 20s. That's not really underrated.

BBB,

Having played since I was two and having had some serious yips, I really think it's more mental than drill. She needs to consider an alternate grip and/or a different putter...and for her sake do those things RIGHT BEFORE a major, before her demons can catch up to her.

I don't watch Wie putt enough to say with certainty that this is the problem. But anyone who has putted many hundreds of thousands of balls as she has should be able to do better than she has from close range.

Also, this should be interesting - the recent women's majors have provided some really excellent finishes. Although I usually don't follow the LPGA, the improvement in talent and increase in good-looking broads has made it way more watchable.

I've been watching the LPGA cuz' of Wie too..and the other teenage prodigies. However what good looking broads are you talking about? I can only name one..Natalie Gulbis.

How sweet would a Sonerstam-Wie final pairing be. I'm sure it would be the highest rated women's golf event by far.

tdk,

You caught me. I should have written "better" rather than "good". The ones that would look mediocre in tennis or volleyball are rockin' hot on the LPGA.

That said, I do think there are many others w/decent bodies, if you subscribe to the "TV adds 10 lbs" theory. Ochoa, for example. I hear she's like 5'3" and barely 100 lbs, and while she has a face for radio, the rest is nice. Seriously, there are at least 3-4 others I'll see during my rare LPGA viewing where I'll be like yeah, more of her plz.

Although I think Wie will ultimately end up being a centaur (top half woman, bottom half horse), you can't tell me you wouldn't hit that. If it were legal, of course...
