At any rate, Lees Sandwiches has been a nice find. Cheap and good.

[/ QUOTE ]

Try Huong Lan on Tully in San Jose, just off 101. It was actually featured on some PBS show about sandwiches a while back, and is quite good. The sandwiches are like $2.00 or $2.50. Extra meat is another $.50.

Pizza is so subjective...there's only a couple of thin-crust places I really like. One is Amici's, a local chain, but I doubt it's terribly authentic, and it's pretty pricey. The other is La Pizzeria in downtown Campbell, which is even pricier.

Thanks for the sandwich recommendations guys. I really like those Vietnamese subs (is there some special name for them?). There was a joint I used to frequent all the time in Raleigh, but they went BUSTO for some reason.

I'll be nearby the Campbell pizza place, so I'll give it a shot.

Specifically:
-New York style pizza (TOP PRIORITY PLZ)

[/ QUOTE ]

Have yet to find a decent NY style pizza here, and I've lived here for 2 years.

[ QUOTE ]

-Indian, Thai, other food (vegetarian friendly)

[/ QUOTE ]
Vaguest Question Ever.

I don't eat Indian or Thai. But the highest rated Indian in South Bay (according to Zagat) is Amber India in Mountain View and San Jose. Surprisingly enough, Zagat doesn't rate a single Thai restaurant south of SF.

-Parks and other recreational areas (dog friendly)

off,

Amici's is pretty good stuff, but not really New York style. At Amici's I'm a big fan of the Trentino from their specialty pizzas and also like simple pizzas like pepperoni or sausage and mushrooms or onions.

NY style pizza: best place in the south bay is Giovanni's in Sunnyvale. It's just a hole in the wall, but the pizza is as good a facsimile of NY style as you will find around here.

Indian: there are plenty of good places in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area. I'd recommend Sue's or Amber in Mountain View.

Bars: There are a few places in downtown Los Gatos you might want to check out: CB Hannegan's and Black Watch. Brittania Arms in Cupertino might also work for you.

eugene was once the pizza capital of the world measured as pizza joints per capita BUT it id also have the best pizza IN THE WORLD at the original track town pizza. once track town sold and expanded the pizza became [censored]. best southbay food is burritos at el tarasco after a day of surfing. if you want great NY style pizza drive north a little to abbots pizza.

OOOPS...this is advice for when you move to MY southbay (hermosa/manhattan beach).

That is the only one I know. It's in a strip mall on Lawrence just north of US101.

For Thai, try Krung Thai. There are two locations, both on Winchester. One by Moorpark and the other one about half a mile north juss Valley Fair mall. Be warned that on weekends, the wait could easily be over an hour.

As for the Banh Mi, Lee's is terrible. Try Saigon Bakery in Asian Plaza on McLaughlin @ Story.
