Re: Playing 2nd pair like a limit player...
I think this move is better w/ ATC and sometimes overcards because if you see the showdown w/ mp here, you will lose. You should do this if you expect to win the pot right there, which is usually a pretty good expectation vs. the average set of villains when you c/r a minibet.

I also think it is fine as long as you let it go, if there is further resistance

Re: Playing 2nd pair like a limit player...
I don't understand. When you semibluff-raise with middle pair, you have five outs to two pair or better in case you get called. When you do bluff-raise with any two, you have no outs to anything you're going to want to play if you get called. Isn't that a classic situation where a semibluff is better than a stone cold bluff? Or to put it another way, if you're going to bluff every so often, may as well do it with outs?
It also bears noting that some villains would play a monster like this -- minbet in LP to try to get some action. In the event, I agree it's far more likely that Villain is trying to take down the pot cheaply, but it's worth considering if Villain calls, Hero turns two pair or trips, and Villain then wakes up later in the hand. |

playing second pair is usually a raise or fold situation. calling being the worse option?
