Re: The long run, my biggest leak
Kagame,
If you are getting multiple bad beats, you are running bad. You dont need us to tell you that. If all of your big money making hands are LOSING, thats the definition of running bad. All you can do, is keep playing your best, take a break, try another game, drop down stakes. We all have bad runs, but remember, it will all come back to you + more. Just dont tilt !!! hang in there....... |

Re: The long run, my biggest leak
In poker every situation will occur. (if you play every hand) BUT the money you make in poker comes from when your opponet makes a mistake, AND in the same situation you wouldn't make the mistake.
Example: Say both you and your opponet will ALWAYS go broke with bottom set, then that's a nuetral EV play. (slightly negative actually because of the rake) BUT lets say when you get bottom set, if the turn and river comes 5 to a flush, and you CORRECTLY lay it down to a river bet, where your opponet will ALWAYS call, then that play's amount of money, times the "frequency (percentage)" of it happening, is how much money you make long term from correctly being able to play that hand where your opponet is unable to. It's that simple. |

[/ QUOTE ] In so far that negative outcomes impact your judgement and decision making adversely, as well as encourage your opponents to see you as a loser, I think it probably is. |

Re: The long run, my biggest leak
Go to PT and get your BB/100 and your STDEV/100.
Go to Excel and put the numbers 100, 200, 300, etc... down column A. Put "=NORMINV(RAND(),PTBB/100,STDEV/100) * $PTBB" in first cell of column B and click the bottom right hand corner of cell. Put "=SUM($A$1:A1)" in first cell of column C and click the bottom right hand corner of cell. Make a graph of column C for how ever many hand you want to simulate. Keep pressing F9 and enjoy the horror. |

Re: The long run, my biggest leak
thanks for the thoughtful responses
I definitely need to realize that limiting loses, even if I am a favorite in the games, will do a great deal to ensure my mental stability. This has been debated a great deal here, but for me I think this is the way to go, +EV or not. |

Re: The long run, my biggest leak
kagame,
i have more of a matchup based attitude simply because I dont plan on doing this for a living at all. Im just tryin to make a couple hundy grand and get out so for me, my long run doesnt really exist. Perhaps I will continue to play in the future for supliment income but I have very bad feelings that the games will dry up and I dont have enough drive to try and become better than the select few that will still be able to make more doing this than I could in the "real" world. Anyways, you and I have completly different needs for the game so in short, dont listen to anything I have to say, lol. Hope you're not running bad, holla |
