you should consider mattapan: easy redline access + low rent = high life

porter and davis are cool and I might end up moving to davis next year. Central is actually a decent place to live as well with some affordable housing. I currently live there in a 5 bedroom row house that is around 850 per, but this is on the high side for the area.

Davis is cool, but very Tuftsy
There actually isn't much to Porter.
Central is the most "urban" of the 3. and the cheapest.

all can be good choices for you, and are far cooler/nicer (and more expensive) than Southie or Dorchester or Mattapan.

North on the redline is probably the way to go, though, being on Green or Orange isn't horrible since it's only one transfer. I don't know whether your company T pass includes commuter rail, but def. look into it. If you go that route, they can get expensive (I think mine's like $180 a month or something). Any of the north locations mentioned-- Davis, Porter, Central would be places to look.

Is there still a chinese place called Yee's village right up highland from Davis Square? They served incredibly strong 2 dollar drinks.

I can still hear me and friends screaming "Let's make it a Yeekend!"

"Yee's Village on Highland Avenue in Davis Square served the second-worst Chinese food I've ever encountered. (The most pitiful was consumed at a fluorescent-lit dump called Hung Far Low that sold martinis and donuts, so the comparison hardly counts.)"

Yah, I've been looking at this more, and realized that pretty much every line can put me at downtown crossing with at most 1 transfer. This has opened up my options greatly.

Any suggestions on places off of other lines? I'm looking for a 2bed/2bath (or 3bed/2bath), and these seem to be a rarity in davis.

Also, the t-pass I get is a combo pass (standard subway pass), I can have it upgraded to a pass with commuter rail on it for like $10/week, which isn't bad but I would really really prefer to be walking distance to public transit.
