I think you guys are missing the point.
If France/China/Canada/wherever doesn't let unlicensed, unregulated, untaxed B&M gambling businesses operate in their territory, what logical, economic, or legal sense does it make to let offshore internet companies do the same thing? |

The Netherlands has been cracking down on unauthorized B&M play, but has said nothing about the internet. Skallagrim [/ QUOTE ] Sure they have. The (former) Minister of Justice has claimed that online gambling is illegal, but that that problem is too difficult to tackle. Further he has looked into ways of having ISPs block Gambling content, and has sent a letter to the dutch branches of creditcard companies claiming that transactions to and from internet gambling companies are illegal. Also there are new tax laws on gambling winnings coming up, and there will be an online gambling casino/pokersite run by Holland Casino, the state casino. Yay monopoliaments. Luckily a new government has been formed in the past few months, so that the anti online gambling measures have been stopped for a while. However, it has yet to be seen how the new policy towards online gambling will be. Things are NOT looking very bright for online gambling in the Netherlands, and from what I understand not in France either. I am afraid I may have to play B&M poker for a living or look for a job in the not so distant future. |

I have seen an RCMP officer interviewed on TV saying that they consider it illegal.
I have heard MPs interviewed on the radio saying it was illegal. There was action on passing a law banning the advertising of online sites. The governent is under intense lobbying pressure from the horse racing industry (which is well connected) to help it maintain its near monopoly on gaming and horse racing is seeing declines that they are worried about. Their slot action has dropped and they blame people playing online now. I used to think it would never happen in Canada but it lloks to be going the same way as the US only slower. |

I really hope you're wrong TorontoCFE . I don't know WTF I will do if I can't play poker online. I guess I will just keep on believing that the Canadian Gov't isn't going to go through the trouble of banning online gaming (atleast in the near future)..

It is looking more and more like the UIGEA has done more than screw the American poker world. It seems to be spreading and mutating into various forms all around the world: [/ QUOTE ] ZOMG WWIII is about to start! Switzerland accidentally invades Liechtenstein ZURICH, Switzerland - What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein. According to Swiss daily Blick, the 170 infantry soldiers wandered just over a mile across an unmarked border into the tiny principality early Thursday before realizing their mistake and turning back. A spokesman for the Swiss army confirmed the story but said that there were unlikely to be any serious repercussions for the mistaken invasion. "We've spoken to the authorities in Liechtenstein and it's not a problem," Daniel Reist told The Associated Press. Officials in Liechtenstein also played down the incident. Interior ministry spokesman Markus Amman said nobody in Liechtenstein had even noticed the soldiers, who were carrying assault rifles but no ammunition. "It's not like they stormed over here with attack helicopters or something," he said. Liechtenstein, which has about 34,000 inhabitants and is slightly smaller than Washington DC, doesn't have an army. |
