If the guy has stationish tendencies, i raise.
Outside that, i'm calling. |

Wait, call? wtf? Live players don't bet their big hands, they slowplay it. Your looking at a worse K here so much of the time, build the pot because no one's folding top pair to you.

The results were I raised to 600 and villain folded. I showed. Villain said that I had him crushed and he had a little piece of the flop. From this I would guess he was leading into the raiser with 2nd pair and he probably had A8s, 98s, or 87s. I don't think I get much action from him if I flat call unless he improves.
I personally would almost always check in that situation, and usually call, but sometimes checkraise or fold. Villain later made plays like raising 6xBB UTG with AQs and minireraising at 4 players and taking the pot with a cbet, which were donk-style, but somewhat effective. I was ready to push to a 3-bet. I figure I get villain to fold enough live, and sometimes he would have a nut flush draw or straight flush draw and I am way ahead, and sometimes he is bluffing or betting a top pair or something and folds. 88 and 55 are the only likely hands where I am significantly behind, and there I am 30%. After villain folded I wondered if a flat call was better, which is why I posted this. |

your not going to get any more money out of an 8 unless he two pairs on a flush card so i think the raise is still fine.
